Boys plan to contend in SICL CC

By Coach Kevin Gartman

After a season of mis-timed injuries that derailed Montezuma boys cross country from a team finish in the SICL championship, the Braves have their eyes set on their first boys conference title in a long time.

What this team may lack in varsity experience, they’ve made up for in competitive practices early on as the eight high school boys look to make some noise as a second strong fall sports team on the boys side this year.

Led by seniors Brydon Henning and Brayden Stockman, first- and second-team all-conference runners in 2019, sophomore Colton Benson also returns for a strong second season.

Joining the returnees this season are rising freshmen Carter McKee, individual runner-up in the junior high conference meet last season; Jack Erselius, who placed 7th, and Jayden Ross.

One of the unknown pieces to add to the fun are the additions of senior Cam Johnson and sophomore Gavin Strong, who have both shown high potential early on.

With some depth on the varsity boys side, the Braves look to continue to grow towards a competitive boys conference meet in October.
