JH girls: Strong at the top AND deep

Montezuma’s junior high girls showed Tuesday evening, April 13, that they’re a athletic force right now, and may continue to be for some time to come.

The girls won 10 events – five of them relays – in sweeping to a big team victory in the Gayle Creswell Relays.

The meet is named after the late, long-time Montezuma educator and coach.

It was sunny and bright on Tuesday, but cool and windy. That didn’t stop the Bravettes.

I’m proud of my girls tonight,” Coach Kevin Gartman wrote. “They did a heck of a job as a team.”

That included getting two place finishes in 22 individual events. That’s how points add up fast.

When it was over, the Bravettes had compiled 188 team points, some 51 more than second-place North Mahaska.
