SIGOURNEY – Carly Goodwin is a freshman pitcher for the Sigourney varsity softball team, and the Bravettes found her to be pretty tough on Monday, June 14.
Goodwin spun a no-hitter at Montezuma, complete with 14 strikeouts, in a 6-0 win by the Savages.
The Bravettes, though, were tough in all but one inning – the Sigourney half of the third, when the home team plated all six of its runs.
Sigourney had 10 hits, the biggest of which was a bases loaded home run by eighth grade first baseman Jo Moore in that ill-fated third for the Bravettes.
Ava Fisch went two-for-four with a run batted in, and Kaylee Weber was two-for-three.
Montezuma was able to draw three bases on balls, but didn’t attempt to steal a base.
Kallie Robison pitched all six innings for Montezuma. She allowed six runs, but all were unearned. The Bravettes were guilty of four errors.
Robison didn’t walk or strike out a batter.
The Bravettes fell to 5-13 overall, and to 1-7 in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Sigourney went to 10-6 and 6-1.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes host Iowa Valley on Wednesday, June 16.
