18-0 start helps 8th girls to 56-12 win

The Montezuma Bravettes 8th grade girls basketball team beat Colfax-Mingo 56-12 at home on Monday, November 28.

Monte jumped to an 18-0 lead late in the first quarter led by Vivian Cook’s hot hand from 3-point range. At the end of the first, the Bravettes led 21-3.

The home team continued to score, leading 35-8 at the half.

The third quarter was more of the same as the Bravettes led 40-10 going to the 4th quarter. Colfax was held scoreless in the 4th period.

The Bravettes shot the ball well, going 23-52 from the field (44%) including 5-7 on 3-pointers (71%) and 5-8 from the line for 63%.

Colfax was held to 5-30 shooting for 17% and 2-4 from the line (50%). The Bravettes controlled the rebounds (35-21). Colfax had 20 turnovers while Monte had just 6.

Vivian Cook lit up the Tigerhawks. She had 25 points including five 3-point baskets. She also had 3 assists.

Sydnee Burgess had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a block for a well-rounded game.

Letisia Wilson and Lauryn Larmore each had 8 points.

Leah Urfer was a stat stuffer with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists and a block. Rylee Wolford had 5 rebounds.

The Bravettes are 2-0 on the season. They host Pella Christian on Thursday. Dec. 1, at 4:15 p.m. Pella Christian defeated the Bravettes last season in a close game. Come out and cheer on the Bravettes on Thursday.
