Day Four
February 22
DES MOINES – Braxton Plants won fourth place at 215 pounds and Brett Plants was eighth at 190 in the Class 1A state individual wrestling meet, which concluded Saturday, Feb. 22, at Wells Fargo Arena.
Both Braxton and Brett wound up winning over 50 matches in their season, which is a major accomplishment.
Braxton – 4th place
Braxton started Saturday by pinning Wright of WOCE in 3:22.
That sent him to the third place match against Sallis of Don Bosco. Sallis won a 16-5 decision to earn third place, with Braxton in at fourth.
Brett – 8th place
Brett had one match Saturday, for seventh place, against Youngblut of Jesup.
Youngblut scored a 4-1 decision, which put Brett in at eighth place.
Day 3
Feb. 21
DES MOINES – Montezuma’s Plants brothers, Braxton and Brett, will wrestle for state medals on Saturday after their efforts in the consolation bracket of the Class 1A state wrestling individual tournament.
Braxton, a junior at 215 pounds, was pinned in 2:58 by Hackett of KIPI. He then beat Krakio of Durant, 16-2.
He can still place as high as third.
Brett Plants, a senior, lost to Wirtz of EMME on a fall in 5:12.
Brett will compete in a match for seventh place on Saturday.
