The Bravettes’ 7th grade girls returned from Marengo on Thursday, Jan. 21, after scoring a 51-16 victory over Iowa Valley.
The Tigers jumped out to an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter. But, the Bravettes finished the quarter strong to knot the score at 8-8.
Montezuma continued its strong play in the second quarter, using a relentless press to get steals and convert them into baskets. The Bravettes had a 23-14 lead at halftime.
Montezuma wore down Iowa Valley in a 14-0 third quarter to lead 37-14 at the end of the period.
The fourth quarter was 14-2 as the Bravettes did not let up in cruising to the 51-16 final.
It was the best shooting game of the season for the 7th graders. They were 24-for-59 for 41 percent. Iowa Valley was 8-for-32 for 25%. The Bravettes won the rebound battle 32-26. Montezuma dominated turnovers, forcing 31 while having just 14.
Lily Ferry had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, to go with five steals.
Claire Erselius had her best game with 11 points and five assists. Makenna Warden was tough around the hoop with eight points, to go with three steals.
Chloe Snook played well with six points, four steals and a block. Lindsey Henry had some strong moves and scored six points.
Kami Mathes hustled her way to four points and four steals. Sara Bos had one block.
The 7th grade Bravettes move to a winning record at 4-3.
