’70 Bravettes take a bow at state

Montezuma’s 1970 girls state championship team was honored over the weekend at the girls state championships at Wells Fargo Arena.

Along the way, they met up again with the current Bravettes, who played their way to the quarterfinal round of the Class 1A finals.

Newell-Fonda won the Class 1A title, with a 65-63 come-from-behind win over Algona Bishop Garrigan.

Newell-Fonda scored an 84-33 win over Saint Ansgar in the semifinals. Saint Ansgar was the team that defeated Montezuma.

No Bravettes were named to the all-tournament team.
