The Montezuma Bravette 7th grade girls basketball team hosted Belle Plaine on Tuesday, January 21. The Bravettes won, 38-19.
The Bravettes had their best 1st quarter of the season, jumping all over the Plainsmen. When Taylor Wilcox dropped a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, Monte had a 14-4 lead.
The Bravettes’ ball-hawking defense continued to frustrate the Plainsmen in 2nd quarter as the Bravettes led 22-8 at halftime. The young Bravettes continued to wear down Belle Plaine in the 2nd half and won 38-19.
The Bravettes shot 15-56 from the field for 27% and 7-11 for 64% from the line. The Plainsmen were 9-35 for 26%. The Bravettes won the rebound battle 38-32. Monte forced 31 turnovers while having 17 of their own.
Shiressa Wetering dominated the paint. She had 8 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Ava Pargeon also had 8 points. Ellen Cook was a stat-stuffer with 7 points, 11 steals, 4 assists and 2 blocks.
Taylor Wilcox had 7 points including a triple. She also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Harlea Pargeon hustled to 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Kylee Larmore had 2 points.
Both teams played two additional quarters. The Bravettes won, 16-5. Madison Cheney & Taya Sincox both scored 6 points. Kylee Larmore scored 4 points.
The B-team/7th grade team has a combined 6-3 record. Their next game is Thursday, January 23 at home against Iowa Valley following the A-game which starts at 4:15. These are the last home games for the junior high teams this season.
