BAXTER – Montezuma’s 7th grade girls basketball team finished a 5-3 season with a 39-9 run past Baxter on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1.
Baxter scored the first basket of the game, but the Bravettes put up the next 13 points to lead by 11 at the end of the first.
Monte continued to use strong defense to outscore the Bolts 8 to 2 in the second quarter, giving the Bravettes a 21-4 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the third quarter as the Bravettes pushed their lead out to 33-6.
The Bravettes shot 19-for-66 from the field for 29 percent. Baxter was 3-for-18 for 17 percent.
Baxter out-rebounded the Bravettes 36-28. However, Montezuma helped to create a season-high 46 turnovers by the opponent, while having just 15 of their own.
Lily Ferry led scoring with 13 points. She also had 6 steals.
Makenna Warden had a strong game with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Chloe Snook hustled her way to 6 points and 9 steals.
Kieran Perez scored 4 points and had a block. Lindsey Henry had 2 points and 5 rebounds.
Claire Erselius had 2 points and 3 steals. Haileah Eichenberger and Krista Cheney each had 2 points. Kami Mathes had 3 steals.
