The Montezuma Bravette 7th grade basketball team hosted Lynnville-Sully on January 20, and emerged with a 50-6 victory.
The Bravettes won the previous meeting 51-12.
Montezuma used strong defense to allow only one basket in the game. All 10 of the Bravettes scored.
The Hawks kept it close in the 1st quarter as the Bravettes led 7-2. But, the home team dominated the 2nd quarter. The halftime score was 25-4. The Bravettes marched through the 2nd half to win 50-6.
Montezuma shot 24-65 for 37%. L-Sully shot 1-10 for 10%. The Bravettes outrebounded the Hawks 34-18. Monte forced 39 turnovers while having 8.
Ellen Cook harassed the Hawks with 10 points, 4 assists and 6 steals. Shiressa Wetering pounded them inside with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Harlea Pargeon had her best game with 6 points, 5 rebounds & 6 steals. Madison Cheney was strong under the hoop with 6 points and 7 rebounds. Kylee Larmore pitched in 5 points & 4 steals.
Addyson Probasco hustled all over the floor to get 4 points & 7 steals. Taya Sincox was very active with 4 points & 6 rebounds. Taylor Wilcox hit 2 jumpers for 4 points.
Elizabeth DeJong had a solid drive for 2 points. Ava Pargeon hit a long jumper to score 2 points.
The B-team/7th grade team has a combined 5-3 record. They play Tuesday, January 21 at home against Belle Plaine’s JH team. They will also play Thursday, January 23 at home against Iowa Valley following the A-game which starts at 4:15.
