7th girls edge Iowa Valley, 18-15

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade basketball team hosted the Iowa Valley Tigers on Thursday, December 12.

The teams were back and forth in the first quarter as Monte took a 4-3 lead. The second quarter belonged to the Bravettes as they shut out the Tigers 6-0 to lead 10-3 at the half.

Iowa Valley cut the lead to 10-6 early in the third quarter but Monte rallied to lead 14-8 at the end of the third quarter. 

Iowa Valley would swish a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 16-15 with 4 minutes to go in the game. But, Montezuma buckled down on defense to shut the Tigers out the rest of the way.

With 1 minute to go, Ava DeWeese found Alyssa Latcham at the free throw line. Alyssa made a strong rip through to score the last basket of the game and help the Bravettes hold on to win 18-15.

Monte shot 9-52 (17%) from the field, 0-5 from long range and 0-4 from the free throw line. Iowa Valley shot 5-48 (10%) from the field, 1-5 from long range and 4-14 from the free throw line. Monte outrebounded the Tigers 51-42. The Bravettes had 18 turnovers while IV had 16.

Lucy Semprini had her best game. She had 6 points on 3 power points (power point = an offensive rebound back to score) with 12 total rebounds.

Lexi Urfer also had a strong game. She scored 6 points and had 6 rebounds. Alyssa Latcham had 4 points, 11 rebounds and a block. Aubree DeJoode had 2 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Ava DeWeese had 6 rebounds. Abby Bos had 3 steals. 

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th graders even their record to 3-3 on the season. The hostrf Lynnville-Sully on Monday, December 16.
