7th girls win close one at NM

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th graders traveled to North Mahaska to play the Warhawks on January 27.

Monte had defeated the Warhawks 22-16 previously so another tight game was expected. Monte jumped to a 4-2 lead at the end of first quarter and led 5-2 at halftime.

Monte had its best quarter in the third quarter as they won it 7-2 to take a 12-4 lead.

North Mahaska rallied in the 4th to cut it to a 2 point lead but Monte held on to win 12-10.

Monte shot 5-55 (9%) from the field, 1-8 from the 3-point line and 1-4 from the free throw line. North Mahaska shot 5-34 (15%) from the field, 0-4 from the 3-point line and 0-4 from the free throw line. The Warhawks outrebounded the Bravettes (39-43). Monte had 13 turnovers and NM had 26. 

Lucy Semprini had a nice game with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Lexi Urfer contributed 5 points including a 3-pointer. She also had 3 assists and 4 steals. Alyssa Latcham had 1 point, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Aubree DeJoode had 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. 

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th graders move to 5-5 on the season. Their next/last game will be January 30 at Lynnville-Sully.
