The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade basketball team hosted the Pella Christian Eagles on Thursday, December 1.
The Bravettes jumped on the Eagles early using a tenacious pressing defense and strong drives to the hoop. This led to a 13-2 lead early and 15-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Pella Christian switched to a triangle and two on defense to try and slow down Monte’s offense. It slowed the Bravettes but did not fully contain them as Monte led 23-14 at halftime.
Monte didn’t score as easily in the second half but still won 37-22.
Monte shot 15-56 (27%) from the field including 2-4 from 3-point range and 5-12 (42%) on free throws. Pella Christian shot 10-27 (37%) from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line.
The Eagles out-rebounded the Bravettes 36-24. Monte forced 34 turnovers while only making 10.
Lauryn Larmore hustled her way to 16 points, 3 assists and 12 steals.
Alexa Rose was also all over the floor. She had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals and a block.
Sophia Semprini had her best game with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The 7th grade Bravettes go to 2-1 on the season. They travel to Brooklyn on Monday and host Iowa Valley on Thursday.
