7th in SICL Braves look ahead

Damien Knox runs in the hurdle shuttle at the SICL meet.

BROOKLYN – Montezuma’s boys track and field team turned in decent times and distances at the SICL conference meet on Tuesday, May 2, but the Braves wound up in seventh place in the 12-school meet.

We were not as sharp as I would like, but things can be corrected,” Coach John Beck said. “Focus and handoffs will need to improve as we move toward the district meet.”

We will need to have some good practices as we move forward,” the coach said.

But there were areas where Montezuma athletes stood out – like hurdling and long jumping.

There was one second-place finish, by Damien Knox in the long jump, who turned in a season’s best effort of 18 feet, 8.25 inches. “That was a very nice jump for a personal record,” Beck said.

Garrett Watts in combat – in a hurdles race.

The Braves got third-place finishes from the 4×110 high hurdle shuttle team of Broox Stockman, Luke Brennan, Knox and Garrett Watts, and from Watts in the 110-meter highs.

I was very pleased to see how our hurdle shuttle ran,” Beck said. “We cut our time signicantly and put ourselves in a good sport for the district meet.”

Garrett also ran very well in the highs, having a personal record,” said the coach.

Kenny Criswell gave us a very nice run in the 100 with a season-best time. Jack Erselius also ran a personal record there,” Beck said.

Beck said “Carter McKee ran a season-best time in the 3,200, battling the wind for eight laps.”

Luke Erselius also had a personal record in the 800,” the coach said.

Bryson Stockman is ready to take off!
