Lynnville-Sully beat Montezuma 57-32 in a junior high boys basketball rematch Monday, Jan. 20.
“I saw a lot of improvements from the first time we played them,” Braves Coach John Beck said.
“Lynnville-Sully got a lot of points off quick turnovers, moved the ball well, and knocked down some shots from the outside. It was not our best game on the defensive side, but we still did some good things,” Beck said.
“We need to do better at moving with the pass and getting ourselves in a better position,” said the coach, who also mentioned taking care of the basketball better.
“We were able to move the ball well and got some really great looks at the basket,” Beck said.
Houston Van Roekel scored 8 points for the Braves. Garrett Watts and Max Anderson each had 6, Cruz DeJong scored 5, Tod Geiger had four and Carter Michalek put in three.
“Watts and Jack Erselius did a great job attacking and finding the open man,” Beck said. “Van Roekel (two three-pointers) and DeJong (one trey) found the open shots from beyond the arc,” the coach said.
“Tod Geiger and Peyton Minner were outsized on the inside, but did a good job rebunding and forcing some contested shots,” Beck said. “Max Anderson did a great job attacking the rim on re-drives.”
“Overall, the effort from the players was great and we did some things really well,” he said.
