8th boys ‘A’ team clicked against L-S

By Coach John Beck

Montezuma outscored Lynnville-Sully in each quarter and scored a 47-34 home win over Lynnville-Sully on Monday, Jan. 18.

Guard Brady Boulton poured in 35 points to lead the Braves attack.

On offense, we attacked very well. We got to the rim but also knew when to kick it out for a great look from behind the arc. The boys executed the offense well and each athlete did their job.

We were able to control the pace of the game and really pushed the ball in transition. Brady Boulton handled and shot the ball well and had a great game. He did a good job getting to the paint and letting plays happen.

Max Anderson and Houston Van Roekel did a great job being ready for kick-out shots or re-drives. Kohen Holland also did a very good job of making himself present down low for dump passes.

Brady Boulton releases a shot. He poured in 35 points in a win over Lynnville-Sully. (Submitted).

Overall, it was a very efficient game for us offensively. When we take care of the ball and look for great shots we can really put up some points.

Boulton shot 14-for-21 from the field, including five-for-seven on three-pointers. He also had three steals and three assists.

Houston (Van Roekel) scored five points. Five Braves had two rebounds each.

On defense, we did a great job with our help defense. Our press did a good job of hurrying them up and forcing turnovers. We had a game plan and the whole team executed it well.

I thought Carter Michalek and David Rose played really well against their main scoring threats. Lynnville-Sully has some very talented athletes but David and Carter did a real good job of stepping up to the challenge.

I was impressed with our communication on screens and how we identified shooters.  Overall I was very pleased with our effort as a whole team on defense and it was a great team win.
