SULLY – Brady Boulton scored all nine Montezuma points in overtime as the 8th grade boys ‘A’ team beat Lynnville-Sully 34-30 on Monday, Dec. 14.
Seven of Boulton’s overtime points came from the free throw line.
“It was a great team win for the boys,” said Montezuma Coach John Beck. “ They battled hard and throughout the game but were really locked in during the 2nd half.”
Here are more thoughts from the coach:
“Defensively we were a little hesitant and a step slow in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd half, we really started to turn up the pressure.
I thought that David Rose, Brett Plants, Bryson Stockman, Carter, and Brady did a really great job with on the ball pressure and forcing turnovers. Peyton Minner did a great job rebounding. As a team, we need to improve in this aspect.
We also need to work on our help-side defense. It comes with reps and we haven’t had a whole lot of time to work on it.
Offensively, we hit some big shots when we needed to and did some things very well. Houston Van Roekel hit a couple of big 3’s and Brady Boulton did a good job attacking downhill.
Kohen Holland did a great job playing down low and hit a couple of tough shots. There are some things we need to work on such as spacing and reading the defense but that will come with a little more time.
Overall, I thought the boys played really well considering they only had two practices going into the game.”
Scoring:
Brady Boulton- 19 (11-17 on FT)
Houston Van Roekel- 8
Kohen Holland – 4
Max Anderson- 2
Carter Michalek- 1 (1-4 on FT)
