The Montezuma 8th grade girls basketball team hosted Lynnville-Sully on January 20. The Bravettes won the previous meeting in December 42-24, and took this one, 45-12.
Montezuma came out very focused on both sides of the ball. The Bravettes jumped to an 8-0 lead. At the end of the first quarter Alivia Cline hit an elbow jumper to give the home team a 17-5 lead.
Jadyn Sharer got red hot in the 2nd quarter. She scored 16 points including four consecutive from long distance. The Bravettes took a 36-5 lead to the half. Monte breezed through the second half to win 45-12.
Montezuma shot 17-47 for 36% including 5-8 from long distance. L-Sully was 5-34 for 15% and 1-7 from 3-point range. The Bravettes were aggressive on the boards out-rebounding the Hawks 41-25. Monte won the turnover battle 25-17.
Jadyn Sharer was on fire. She had 27 points including 5 treys. She also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Jordan Ranfeld had 5 points and 8 rebounds.
Ashlee Eilander had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Alivia Cline had 4 points, 6 assists, 5 steals and a block. Isabella Roorda had 2 points and 5 steals. Madison Van Zee had 2 points.
The A-team/8th grade team has a combined 7-1 record. Their next game is Thursday, January 23 at home against Iowa Valley at 4:15 p.m. This will be 8th graders’ final home game.
