8th girls win showdown with L-Sully

It was a match-up of the two top JH teams in the South Iowa Cedar League on Monday, Dec. 13

Last year as 7th graders, Lynnville Sully won by 15 and by 3 points. But this time around, it was different, as the Bravettes prevailed, 28-26.

Lynnville-Sully led most of the first quarter, but Monte rallied late to make it 8-7 L-S at the end of one.

The teams traded hoops as Sully took a 15-12 halftime lead. The Bravettes had a big third quarter outscoring LS 8-0 to take a 20-15 lead.

The 4th quarter was very exciting as the Hawks took a 21-20 lead. Claire Erselius immediately answered with a strong drive to give the Bravettes a 22-21 lead.

The Hawks made a free throw to tie it at 22.
Claire made another shot to give Monte a 24-22 lead. The Bravettes got a defensive stop, then Sydnee Burgess scoreed on an inbounds play.

Lynnville-Sully hits consecutive jumpers to tie it at 26-26.

With 8 seconds remaining, the Bravettes have the ball under their own basket. Claire finds Sydnee, who is fouled. Burgess goes to the line and calmly sinks 2 free throws.

Erselius and Chloe Snook double-teamed the ball handler who is unable to get a shot up.

Bravettes win 28-26!

The Bravettes shot 11-58 for 19% from the field and 6-11 from the line. The Hawks were 11-38 for 29% from the field and 6-12 from the line.

The Hawks out-rebounded the Bravettes 40-38. The Bravettes won the turnovers battle
25-17.

Claire Erselius led the way with 14 points, 6 steals and 2 blocks. Lindsey Henry did many things to help the Bravettes win. She had 6 points, 9 rrebounds and 3 blocks.

Sydnee Burgess had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Chloe Snook had 2 points and 5 rebounds while playing strong defensively.

Haileah Eichenberger had a block. Lily Ferry had 5 rebounds.

Vivian Cook had 3 steals and a block. Makenna Warden had a block.

The Montezuma A-team moves to 4-1 on the season. They play Keota on Dec. 15 before a long Christmas break.
