The Montezuma Junior High ‘A’ boys basketball team was a 39-24 winner over North Mahaska at home on Monday, Jan. 11
The Braves made 14 of 41 shots. Inside the arc, they were 9 of 14 and shot 5 for 27 outside the arc.
From the free-throw line, we were an efficient 6 for 10. While our 3-pt percentage was a bit low, I was very happy with the shots that we got. They are the type of shots I want the boys to take and once we get into the rhythm of the season they will start falling.
We got into the paint really well attacking with the drive.
We did a great job on the boards grabbing 29 rebounds compared to the War Hawks 22. We could do a little better job boxing out on the defensive end but to win the rebounding battle is always a good thing.
I thought we shared the ball well getting 8 assists and having plenty more opportunities. We were very active on defense forcing 18 turnovers, 8 of which were steals, which lead to some layups on the other end.
I thought we pushed the ball well and controlled the tempo of the game. One thing to clean up for the Braves is turnovers. We had way too many and it lead to some easy points for them.
