8th grade boys ‘A’ team wins a 60-2 game

BELLE PLAINE – The Montezuma junior high boys ‘A’ team beat Belle Plaine 60-2 on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

You read that right. 60 (sixty) to 2 (two).

This was a mismatch,” said Montezuma Coach Dennis Phelps.

Belle Plaine had just seven players, all of whom are seventh graders,” said Phelps. They had to go against Montezuma’s mostly eighth grade crew.

Brady Boulton scored 20 points including a trio of three-pointers. Broox Stockman was a second double figures scorer with 12.

The main points were that we played hard, created a number of turnovers in the half court, and were able to run some offensive sets that we have been working on the past several weeks,” the coach said.

Luke Erselius scored 8 points, Dane Strong had 5, Luke Brennan and Blake Smith had 4 each, Rhett Pargeon scored 3 and Issac Wedgewood and Cade Stone had 2 points each.

We did pass the ball and did not always take the first shot available, which could have been on the first pass,” Phelps said.

These can be hard games to coach in when the other team is struggling to pass and shoot.”
