‘A’ boys ‘adjust’ for Sigourney win

Successful adjustments were made, and the Montezuma junior high ‘A’ boys basketball team scored a 40-26 win over Sigourney on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at home.

Sigourney is a tall and talented team with a strong inside game and a couple of good three-point shooters,” said Montezuma Coach Dennis Phelps.

Montezuma led 17-14 at halftime.

Sigourney was very aware of the driving ability of Brady Boulton and made a concerted effort to block the lane,” Phelps said. “We were able to get several easy looks at the basket on assists.”

Boulton led Montezuma scoring with 25 points, including three treys.

Their size did affect some of our inside shooting,” Phelps said. “We made a couple of adjustments that gave Brady more room to drive and score, along with increasing our inside game.”

Montezuma outscored Sigourney 23-12 in the second half to close out the 14-point win.

Broox Stockman scored 7 points, Isaac Wedgewood had 4, and Luke Erselius and Luke Brennan had 2 each.

We got scoring from more players in this game, strong reboundng, especially from Broox, and we switched to an aggressive zone defense that limited their scoring and started us on fast breaks after turnovers,” Phelps said.

I was pleased with our efforts and adjustments in the second half,” the coach said.
