A-girls didn’t get a test, but did score big win

BAXTER – The Montezuma Bravettes junior high girls basketball A-team traveled to Baxter to play the Bolts on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The Bolts had a winning record on the season and the Bravettes were hoping for a good road test. It did not turn out to be one as Montezuma won 39-11.

The Bravettes raced to a 13-0 lead at the quarter. Letisia Wilson made a buzzer-beater at the half to give Monte a 29-0 lead.

Midway through the 3rd quarter Vivian Cook found Leah Urfer for a left hand layup to give Monte a 35-0 lead. Again, the final was 39-11.

Monte had one of its better shooting performances of the season. The Bravettes were 17-43 (40%) from the field, 2-7 (29%) on 3-pointers and 3-13 (23%) from the line.

Baxter was 5-32 (16%) from the field, 1-8 (13%) from the field and 0-2 from the line. Monte won the rebound battle 31-29. Monte forced 21 turnovers while only having 6 of their own.

Sydnee Burgess was a stat stuffer. She had 8 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals.

Vivian Cook contributed 8 points including a 3-pointer and 6 rebounds.

Leah Urfer had 8 points. Lauryn Larmore had 7 points with a 3-pointer.

Letisia Wilson had one of her best games with 6 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Rylee Wolford had 2 points and 4 steals.

The 7th graders played 2 quarters. The Bravettes outscored the Bolts 22-6. Alexa Rose led the way with 13 points. Sophia Semprini had 4 points. Ryanne Williams made a 3-pointer. Olivia Latcham had 2 points.

The Montezuma Bravettes A-team moves to 8-1 on the season. They have a big week next week. They travel to Sully on Monday, Belle Plaine on Tuesday and Iowa Valley on Thursday.
