The Montezuma Bravettes A-team hosted the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks on Monday, December 2.
The Tigerhawks frustrated the Bravettes early in the game. Colfax hit a 3-pointer with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter to give them a 5-3 lead. Monte rallied to take a 7-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Montezuma dominated the second quarter. They outscored the visitors 15-0 to take a 22-5 lead at the half. The Bravettes struggled in the 3rd quarter but still extended their lead 30-9.
Monte finished strong in the fourth quarter out-pacing the Tigerhawks 14-0 to win 44-9.
Montezuma shot 20-46 (44%) from the field, 0-2 from long distance and 4-14 from the free throw line. Colfax was 3-21 (14%) from the field, 2-5 from the 3-point line and 1-4 from the free throw line. Monte won the rebound battle 29-22. The Bravettes had 9 turnovers while the Tigerhawks had 27.
Montezuma was led by Brielle Haughey. Bri scored 18 with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Brielle Latcham had a strong game with 12 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Lilly Bushong scored 12 points in 2 quarters of play. Kady Schmidt had 2 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Keegan Gunderson had 6 rebounds.
The Montezuma Bravettes A-team moves to 3-0 on the season. They host Pella Christian on Thursday, December 5 at 4:15.
