A-team girls even their record at 3-3

The Montezuma Bravettes A-team traveled to Marengo to face the Iowa Valley Tigers on Thursday, December 7.

Monte jumped all over the Tigers early with a 10-4 first quarter and a 9-1 second quarter to take a 19-5 lead at the half. But, Iowa Valley had a huge run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 19-15.

Montezuma’s defense shut the door on the Tigers for the rest of the game and the offense scored some key baskets to win 26-15.

The Bravettes shot 10-44 (23%) from the field, 1-19 (5%) from long distance and 5-10 from the free throw line. The Tigers were 6-20 (30%) from the field, 1-4 (25%) from beyond the arc and 2-6 (33%) from the free throw line.

Montezuma outrebounded the taller Tigers 31-22. Montezuma was also better handling the ball with 9 turnovers to 17 for Iowa Valley.

Lauryn Larmore had another stellar game. She had 15 points with one trey, 7 rebounds and a block. Sophia Semprini had 4 points. Alexa Rose had 3 points.

Ryanne Williams hustled her way to 2 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Marley Stowell hit a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter for 2 points.

Montezuma moves to 3-3 on the season. They travel to Sully on Monday and Keota on Tuesday.
