About WMU and now, Bedford!

By John Beck
Head football coach

Again, WMU was a great team win for the guys. I knew that WMU would be much-improved going into this game as they had 3 starters back from the team that we played earlier in the year and they were playing some really good football as of lately. Our guys never waivered though, they stuck together and persevered.

We knew they would probably try to pass the football with their game plan. We decided to mix up between our 2 and 3 front bringing pressure from a variety of outlets to force some quick throws.

We were able to get there early on, then they did a nice job of picking up the different fronts and pressures. Later in the game, we were able to get some pressure especially on their last two drives.

Our guys up front have done a great job all year long. Friday was no different. We were able to mix in a variety of our run schemes to get our backs the ball.

We were able to get movement on our doubles and our tight ends were able to pick up key blocks as well. Having 3 guys right around 100 yards rushing is a testament to all the guys around them doing their jobs.

Along with that, our wide receivers have stepped up big, not only in their run blocking but also by having some great catches.

David Rose and Carter Michalek both had huge moments in the game. David had a very nice grab where he knew he was going to take a shot. Carter adjusted well to his touchdown catch as well.

Bedford is a very disciplined and physical football team. They are not very big but they are very skilled at getting off of blocks and making the right play at the right time.

They pursue to the ball and tackle really well – all the signs of a great defense.

On offense, they like to run-dive option along with power, counter, and toss out of double-tight sets. When they go spread they like to pass, however the quarterback is very skilled with his legs and can turn a big play at any moment.

Keys will be the battle up front and who can play the best mistake-free football.

It’s going to be a good one and I cannot wait to see our guys compete on Friday!
