Albia hammers out win over Braves
The Albia Blue Demons outscored Montezuma in each quarter and beat the Braves 83-55 on Saturday evening, Feb. 3, at home.
Albia led 22-16 after one quarter, 40-26 at halftime and 66-45 through three quarters.
Montezuma was guilty of 21 turnovers and that was a decisive statistic for the Braves, who were playing in their fourth game of the week and second in as many nights.
“We played hard, but ran out of gas on the second night of a back-to-back,” Braves Coach Derrick Dengler said.
“Credit to Albia, who had a great night from behind the arc.”
That the Demons did, sinking 12-of-23 from back there.
Brady Boulton scored 27 for Montezuma and Garrett Watts had 14.
Boulton’s 27 came from 7-for-13 shooting from the field, and 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
Both teams shot well from the field, Albia at .482 and the Braves at .474.
Watts’ 14 ame on 5-for-8 from the field, and one-of-two on treys. He and Kohen Holland tied for team honors in rebounds with 6 each.
Albia left town with a 9-8 record.
The Braves will take a 13-7 mark into their next contest.
