Athletic Hall of Fame seeks nominees

After a two-year hiatus because of to COVID-19, the Montezuma Athletic Hall of Fame is making plans for a return in August. 

The first HOF class was inducted in 2016, followed by successful classes in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  The pandemic prevented HOF ceremonies in 2020 and 2021.

The Hall of Fame Committee encourages you to submit nominations for the 2022 Montezuma Athletic Hall of Fame. The document for this process can be found on the school website. 

This procedure allows the committee to continue to review and revise potential candidates.

FIRST HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES:  The initial Montezuma Athletic Hall of Fame’s class was inducted nearly six years ago, September 23, 2016, on Badger-Gabriel Field.  The Hall’s initial class included eight individuals and five teams.  Pictured on the front row, left to right are inductees:  Rich Grife, ’90, Jamie Arendt,’90, Bill Bolen,’54, Janel Grimm Burgess, ’94, and Lance Elliott, ‘89.  Three individuals honored posthumously were the late Charles Barg, ’26, and long-time coaches, I. A. Gabriel and Carroll Rugland.   The undefeated and unscored upon 1948 football team was honored along with four State Championship basketball teams – the Bravettes of 1969 and 1970, and the Braves of 1971 and 1990.  FFA instructor, Rick Swenson, emceed the evening festivities.   After the ceremony honored guests and family members gathered for refreshments and tours of the new North gym.  Former Activities Director Tyler Lown was commended for bringing past and present athletes as well as community members together.
