Audubon steamrolls the Braves, 82-0

AUDUBON – It was a tough night against a very good Audubon team for the Montezuma Braves in their Class 8 second round football playoff game on Friday, Oct. 31.

The Braves went down 82-0, after falling behind 62-0 by halftime.

It was evident from the first play from scrimmage that the Wheelers’ ball carriers were tough to stop. They took the opening kickoff and scored their first touchdown less than 42 seconds later.

And it stayed that way. The Wheeler running backs were simply hard to bring down.

They didn’t leave much room on defense, either. Braves quarterback Brady Boulton was able to throw for short yardage to Rett Pargeon and Dane Strong, but Montezuma was not able to sustain a scoring drive.

The score was 24-0 after one quarter, the aforementioned 62-0 at halftime and 68-0 after three quarters.

Audubon rolled to its 10th victory against no defeats.

The Wheelers were a 35-point favorite according to BC Moore Rankings, but they covered the spread by halftime.

Montezuma bowed out with a very respectable 7-3 season, and one playoff game win under its belt.

Our thanks to Coach Al Rabenold for his help spotting all Montezuma games this season!

Our thanks, too, to the Braves for extending their season by two weeks. Each playoff game you wins means the underclassmen can practice with the varsity for another week. That’s important in sustaining the strength of a program, and in just one reason why you see a lot of familiar faces in the playoff field each season.
