Ava Anderson and girls blaze new trails

SEARSBORO – It was another day for the Montezuma middle school girls to shine when the Montezuma cross country teams hosted their own invitational meet on a sun-soaked Thursday afternoon, Oct. 8 at Big Springs Shooting Complex.

Ava Anderson and the Montezuma Middle School runners easily won top honors in individual and team competition.

Ava covered the 1.6-mile distance in 9:30.6, winning by 48.5 seconds.

Great work by the junior high girls team to capture a home meet win,” said Coach Kevin Gartman. “We also had a few high school runners adding personal records, including Haileah Eichenberger, Dayton Reif, Cade Lowry and Luke Benson!” he said.

Thanks to all who came out and supported or helped out,” Gartman said. “It’s always great to see such a strong turnout at the home meet and I’m thankful we had such a nice night to compete.”

The teams were set to be back at Big Springs for the SICL meet on Wednesday, Oct. 15
