COLFAX – It was a testament to perseverance!
After 12 losses to open the season, the baseball Braves won a game.
It was 6-4, over Colfax-Mingo, on Wednesday evening, June 22.
The Braves played a steady game, and were paid for it.
Pitcher Owen Cook worked 6.1 innings, and got help from Carsten James, who secured the final two outs.
Cook allowed just six hits, walked two and struck out nine.
The Braves had eight hits, and Cook was right in the middle of that, too. He was 2×2 at the plate, with a double and two runs batted in.
Six other Braves had one hit each, including Garrett Watts, Cruz De Jong, Colton Benson, Broox Stockman, Jack Erselius and Luke Erselius.
Luke Erselius drove in two runs with a double.
Watts singled in a run, and stole a base.
Brett Plants had a pair of sacrifices for the Braves.
The Braves worked Colfax-Mingo pitching for four walks.
Montezuma overcame four errors and seven stolen bases allowed to pick up the win.
Montezuma’s first win leaves the Braves at 1-12 on the season.
Colfax-Mingo fell to 4-10.
