Basketball Braves feast and feted

Senior Eddie Burgess, holder of three school records, earned the Braves “Team Together” Award at the high school boys basketball program’s annual family dinner and awards event on Sunday, Feb. 27 at the school.

The award, which is voted on by the players, goes to the individual who was a “tremendous teammate and always put the team #1.”

Burgess set a school record for most rebounds in a single game with 24.

He had the most rebounds in one season (350).

Burgess is the all-time leader in career rebounds with 1,011.

Eddie also became the 12th player in school history to become a 1,000 point scorer (1,014).

Burgess was one of 8 players from Montezuma’s 19-school substate to be named first-team all-substate.

Four Braves were honored for their on-court skills by the South Iowa Cedar League.

Burgess was named to the all-SICL first team.

Masin Shearer was named to the league’s second team.

Owen Cook and Gavin Strong were all-SICL honorable mention picks.
