As I write this, our country is rapidly changing.

Word coming down from our president and governor concerning the COVID-19 crisis has us all constantly wondering what’s next for our school-age children, our elderly, and our businesses.

On thing is certain: We are all in this together.

All information provided is as of 1 p.m. on March 30.

Poweshiek Partners continue to meet twice a week via Zoom, with Brian Paul, Poweshiek County Emergency Management Coordinator.

A respiratory clinic provided by Unity Point Health Care in Grinnell is up and running at the Light Center, located across the street and east of the hospital.

If you feel the need to be seen, call your medical provider first. You or your medical provider can contact Urgent Care at (641)-236-2378.

Screening will be done over the phone. If the medical professional feels you need to be tested, they will instruct you about the next steps.

Partial fulfillment of personal protective equipment (PPE) was received, with more to arrive.

To protect our EMS personnel, addresses will be flagged by dispatchers to alert them of a positive COVID patient.

Essential childcare is in the planning stage.

Long term care facilities continue planning and preparing diligently to ensure the safety of the residents.

Many of our small businesses have been ordered to close. Some have improvised to remain open. The Small Business Administration has put together a low-interest loan package called Economic Injury Disaster Loan. If you’re in need of this information, go to www.disasterloan.sba.gov

Self-employed workers are now eligible for unemployment benefits as part of the federal stimulus package. Go to the Iowa Workforce Development website to apply.

  • Montezuma City Offices are closed to the public. If you need to speak to someone, call 623-5617.
  • Montezuma Utilities is recommending setting up EFT payments for your account. Otherwise, drop off payment in the drop box on the south side of the city office.
  • Montezuma Public Library is closed to the public.
  • City and school parks are closed until further notice.
  • Montezuma Community Schools is offering a grab-and-go breakfast and lunches for children ages 2-18 for the duration of closure. Sign up at aradeke@montezuma.k12.ka.us or call 623-5121.
  • Mobile meals continues as usual and are delivered by volunteers.
  • The Montezuma Food Pantry is using a drive-up service.
  • Montezuma Specialty Care has restricted all visitors at this time.
  • Poweshiek County Courthouse is closed to the public. Any questions you have should be directed to the office you’re seeking.

  • Windstream office is business as usual.
  • Mahaska Communication Group has asked you refer to www.mahaska.org or call (641) 501-6000 if you need assistance.
  • Vannoy Chevrolet is business as usual.
  • Hometown Hardware is open for business.
  • Riser Fitness is closed until further notice.
  • All-Body Yoga is closed until further notice. Online workouts are available on their Facebook page.
  • Three Sisters Fabric and Fashions is closed until further notice.
  • Montezuma Floral is still doing deliveries. Call to order flowers at 623-2984. Not open for public traffic.
  • Montezuma Super Valu remains open for business. No redemption of cans or bottles until further notice.
  • Dollar General remains open. Priority shopping for senior citizens during the first hour of business.
  • All hair salons, barber shops, and tattoo shops ordered closed until further notice.
  • Ellis Home Interiors is business as usual.
  • Peoples Savings Bank is using drive-through service. The lobby will be open by appointment only. Call 623-5105.
  • Montezuma State Bank is open for business as usual. Online service also is available.
  • County Bank encourages using PAT, located on the west side of the square. Drive up and touch the screen and someone will assist you.
  • Churches offering online services are Montezuma United Methodist, First Presbyterian Evangelical and Community Hope.
  • Zuma Zoo Daycare is closed until further notice. Many at home daycares remain open.
  • Montezuma Country Club clubhouse is closed until further notice. Members only who have a cart may play golf.
  • Sauced Pizza and Pub is open for carry-out, delivery, and take-and-bake meals. Call in orders to 623-4444.
  • Subway is offering online order delivery service. Call in carryout orders to 623-7827.
  • Montezuma Dairy King is open regular hours.
  • The Daily Grind is closed until further notice.
  • Yolanda’s Taco Truck remains open.
  • Pirates of Ponderosa is offering curbside pick up and delivery. Call orders to 623-1313.

I encourage everyone to reduce your risk by shopping locally. Our small town businesses will take a hit by this pandemic and they need our continued support.
