NORTH ENGLISH – Coming in, neither Montezuma or English Valleys had won a baseball game this season.

Something had to give.

And it did. The Bears netted their first victory of the year, 3-2. But, that final score doesn’t lie: Both sides showed that they’re still improving.

The game was played Wednesday evening, June 8.

Owen Cook did much in the way of giving the Braves a chance to win their first game.

He went 3×4 at the plate, stole a base and scored a run.

Cook also pitched all six innings, striking out nine Bears.

Montezuma had 11 hits and if you’ve been following along, you’ll recognize that’s a good total for the Braves.

Garrett Watts went 2×4 for Montezuma, including a double that drove in a run.

The Braves also allowed just one stolen base – a big improvement in that category, and made four errors, also a categorical improvement.

The Braves fell to 0-7 on the season.

English Valleys went to 1-8.
