The Montezuma Bravettes JH A-team basketball squad hosted the Plainsmen of Belle Plaine on Tuesday, December 16.
Montezuma would press and play a strong man to man defense. Belle Plaine conversely would play a 2-3 zone. Both teams were scoreless until less than a minute to go in the first quarter when BP got loose for two layups.
Abby Bos would get the Bravettes on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer early in the second quarter. But that was Monte’s only basket of the half. The Plainsmen took an 8-3 lead to halftime.
Both teams scored a basket in the third quarter as BP led 10-5.
Montezuma could never make a run at BP as the Plainsmen won 13-8.
Montezuma went 1-28 on two-point shots, 2-21 from beyond the arc, and 0-8 from the line. BP shot 5-36 on two-pointers, 0-1 on three-pointers, and 3-8 on free throws.
The Bravettes won the battle of the boards 43-36. Turnovers were almost even. Monte had 16 and BP had 17.
Abby Bos made a 3-pointer and had 4 steals. Teagan Sutherland had a 3-pointer, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Lucy Semprini got 2 points and 11 rebounds. Aubree DeJoode had 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Carleigh Klein had 5 rebounds.
The JH Bravettes A-team fall to 1-8 on the season as they head to Christmas break.
The B-game video had technical difficulties, so I have limited stats. Belle Plaine won 36-15. Teagan Sutherland had 7 points. Karley Eichenberger scored 4 points. Amber Hindeman had 3 points. Aubrey Bardwell made a free throw. The JH Bravettes B-team drops to 4-2 on the season.
