Bennett takes third place at SICL mat

BROOKLYN – Zach Bennett earned a third-place medal at 182 pounds to highlight the Montezuma wrestling team’s day at the SICL meet on Saturday, Jan. 29.

As a team, the Braves scored 30 points to take 10th place in a 10-team field. Sigourney-Keota outscored second-place Iowa Valley 237-154 for the team championship.

Bennett got to 29 wins on the season with his 6-0 decision over Nathaniel Miller of Iowa Valley in the third-place match.

Bennett scored a first round pin, then was pinned in the semifinals. He was a 13-1 winner over Katie Schlosser of Colfax-Mingo in the wrestleback semifinals.

Braves Kennen Roadcap at 220 pounds earned fifth place. Roadcap pinned Dillon Kapple of English Valleys-Tri-County in 1:49 of their fifth-place bout.

Peter Roberts of the Braves wrestled in three matches and earned sixth place.

Marty Knox didn’t wrestle, but picked up fifth-place team points for the Braves. He was sent through the brackets on forfeits, including a win in the fifth-place match because there were just five wrestlers in his 195-pound weight class.

UP NEXT – The Braves return to BGM for Sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 5.
