The varsity Bravettes came out of their softball season opener against BGM with things to work on and positives to build on.
The result – a 6-4 BGM victory – was one of those things the Bravettes will start working on.
The game was played in Montezuma on Wednesday evening, May 26.
Each team plated two runs in the first inning. But the Bears added on three in the third and one in the fourth and Montezuma couldn’t catch up.
Positives for the Bravettes included 10 hits – and a team batting average of .303 for the game. That afforded some base running opportunities and Montezuma was six-for-six in stolen bases.
But the Bravettes will spend some time working on their defense. They yielded six errors. Sophomore pitcher Kallie Robison was charged with just one earned run.
Laila Kercheval, Madison Van Zee and Jadyn Sharer all had two hits each. Sharer hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.
Getting one hit each were Kalynn Wanders, Katie Reynolds, Kailey Shaffer and Robison. Reynolds was two-for-two in stolen bases.
Robison’s other seven-inning pitching totals: one walk, five strikeouts, and eight hits allowed.
Jeryn Kalinay went two-for-three for the Bears with two doubles and two runs batted in. Karagyn Minnaert had one hit and drove in three runs.
Morgan Cline went three-for-four for BGM.
Bears pitcher Isabelle Austin yielded three earned runs, while walking one and striking out four in going the seven-inning distance.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes were scheduled to play at Grinnell at 6:30 on Thursday evening. The JV game was canceled.
