MONTEZUMA – We’re getting to the point in the ball seasons where games between well-matched teams can be close and entertaining.
Such was the case on Friday, June 6, when BGM slid past homestanding Montezuma in softball, 5-3.
The Bears led 3-2 through three innings. BGM pushed across two runs in the fourth to go up 5-2.
The Bravettes got something started in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bears shut it off after one run scored, hence the final score of 5-3.
BGM led 10-4 in hits and was able to move those runners around.

Ellen Cook drove in two runs with a single for Montezuma.
Chloe Snook had one hit, and scored two runs.
Mya Smothers and Lauryn Larmore had one hit each, and Vivian Cook scored two Bravettes runs.
Montezuma stole 5 bases. Snook and Vivian Cook had 2 each and Kamryn Schmidt swiped one.
The Bravettes made just two errors in the contest.

Leah Urfer pitched all seven innings for Montezuma, allowing the 10 hits and 5 runs, 4 of which were earned. She walked one and struck out 8.
Cara Arment pitched all 7 innings for BGM, allowing 4 hits and the 3 runs, all of which were earned. She struck out 4 and walked 8.
Karagyn Minnaert had two hits and two runs batted in for BGM.
BGM went to 4-2 with the win, while Montezuma fell to 3-3.
UP NEXT – A scheduled Saturday doubleheader at Van Buren (1-5) was canceled.
