Big 8th inning lifts girls past BP, 9-4

BELLE PLAINE – Montezuma’s trend of being consistent hitters continued, and to that they added an errorless game in scoring a 9-4 win over Belle Plaine in eight innings on Monday, June 10.

The game was tied at 4-4 though the regulation seven innings, then Montezuma erupted for five runs in the eighth to take he win.

Montezuma rapped out 13 hits in the contest.

Montezuma runner Kelsie Mostek (10) is ordered to take home by Coach Jeremy Van Zee.

Madison Van Zee was three-for five. Chloe Snook was two-for-four, including a double and two runs batted in.

Kam Schmidt had two hits and two RBIs.

Syd Burgess had two hits.

Getting one hit each were Ellen Cook, Mya Smothers, who drove in a run, Vivian Cook, who drove in two, and Lauryn Larmore.

Vivian Cook, Izzy Roorda and Burgess each stole a base.

Burgess was Montezuma’s starting pitcher and worked the first six innings. She yielded five hits and 3 runs, all earned. She walked three and struck out four.

Leah Urfer pitched two innings, allowing one hit, and an earned run. She didn’t walk anyone and struck out two.

The win lifted the Bravettes to 4-4 on the season.

Belle Plaine fell to 5-6.
