Montezuma School Board members accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dave Hoeger during a Monday, April 13 board meeting, held via Zoom.
Hoeger’s resignation comes amid published reports that he has accepted a combined superintendent’s position for the Maquoketa Valley and North Linn districts.
The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald reported on Friday, April 10, that Hoeger had accepted that combined position. He is to start July 1.
Contacted via e-mail by Montezuma Magazine, Hoeger said he will have a statement for the Montezuma community as soon as contracts are finalized.
Meanwhile, the board on Monday hired Grundmeyer Leader Services, LLC, a search firm from Ankeny, to find a “part-time” superintendent for Montezuma, with the possibility the position could become “finalized” at a later date.
Applications are now being accepted on the firm’s website. Applications will remain open through May 3.
The board will meet May 6 to review applications.
Final interviews with finalists will be on the week of May 11
Hoeger has been superintendent in Montezuma for two years.
He served as principal of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth from 2010 to 2017. Before that he was a math teacher and then an assistant principal at the school. He is also a 1984 graduate of Western Dubuque.
Hoeger will be replacing a superintendent who is retiring.
Maquoketa Valley is located in Delhi and North Linn is in rural Coggon.
