They found a body.
Is it Xavior Harrelson?
The word spread like wildfire around the Montezuma area on Thursday, Sept. 30, after the Iowa DCI confirmed that the human remains of an adolescent were located in the field off the Ewart Road about four miles northwest of Montezuma.
Mitch Mortvedt, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, told a news conference at the scene that the clothing description matches what Harrelson, who would now be 11, was reported wearing when he disappeared on May 27.
However, there was no immediate confirmation that the body found was Xavior. Even the gender of the body was not confirmed.
Mortvedt told reporters that a farmer doing field work found the remains.
Mortvedt told reporters that confirming the identity of the the body could take eight weeks or more. However, officials said they did notify Harrelson’s family of the discovery.
In the four months since Xavior’s disappearance, volunteers have worked to raise more than $30,000 for the reward fund as well as spread flyers regionally and nationally to raise awareness about his disappearance.
