Boosters do post-pandemic planning!

Booster Bash” – a new community event – has been added to the summer series in Montezuma.

Members of the Montezuma Community Boosters learned some details about it during their meeting on Wednesday, March 4, at The Daily Grind.

Booster Bash is scheduled for the fourth Thursday of three months – June 25, July 23 and Aug. 27.

Vendors will be able to sell their own wares. For example, there could be food vendors, a farmer’s market, home businesses, and arts and crafts.

Civic organizations and government entities can also attend and exhibit their offerings.

Exhibitors and vendors will set up on the courthouse side of the streets on the east and south sides of the Poweshiek County Courthouse.

Vendors will need to being their own tables and chairs and all set-up help. Electricity will not be provided.

Set up will be no earlier than 5 p.m.

Registration is a $5 deposit, which will be refunded after the exhibitor sets up. Registration is required to reserve a spot for each date. Non-registered vendors will be welcome, too, but their spot will be on an as-available basis.

Possibilities for entertainment, activities and contests at the Booster Bash events were discussed, with details to be announced. Ideas included a pet and doll parade, a horseshoes tournament, contacting the Montezuma Activities Group, a Bocce ball tournament, a cornhole tourney, a scavenger hunt involving Montezuma history, something involving the monuments in town, a putting contest, a dog show and a public safety show and/or demonstration.

Members also spent time talking about details for the Montezuma Area Home and Business Expo, which had been scheduled for March 31. However, that event has now been canceled because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Members talked about attending an Iowa Cubs game on July 10 and asked Treasurer Deb Ver Meer to purchase 100 tickets. The organization may look for a business to sponsor some or all of the Boosters’ cost.

In other business, it was noted that the Montezuma Activities Group will sponsor the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 11, The Boosters plan to donate to this event.

Eddie Pierson of Mahaska Communication Group reported that installation of above-ground utilities is near completion. He added that work on below-ground utilities will proceed upon arrival of warm weather and thawed ground.
