Montezuma’s upcoming “Hometown Holiday” events drew discussion when the Montezuma Community Boosters met on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in The Daily Grind.
Hometown Holiday events are set for Saturday, Dec. 7.
Boosters Treasurer Deb Ver Meer has ordered coloring books to give to children who attend the morning Santa Breakfast in Memorial Hall.
Story hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in Montezuma Public Library.
Ver Meer said 100 to 125 bags of goodies are given out during the Santa Breakfast event.
The Boosters are continuing their tree decorating contest. They will be displayed in businesses and prizes will be awarded.
United Methodist Church will again have its cookie walk and there will be music from 11 a.m. until noon at the church.

In other business, Eddie Pierson of Mahaska Communication Group said the completion date for installation of new internet and telephone systems in Montezuma have been moved from February to January of 2020. He said the reason is large numbers of people requesting the service.
A representative from Montezuma Specialty Care reported they are still $9,000 short of funds needed to purchase a 12-wheelchair-accessible bus to take residents on outings. They have been having various fundraisers for this objective.
Jennifer Schuur of Montezuma Floral & More said she has more than 20 vendors displaying their items on consignment in her store.
Nicole Brua-Behrens of the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation informed club members of grants available to businesses and organizations in Poweshiek County. The foundation is celebrating its 30th year of supporting the Poweshiek County area.
Ver Meer, in her report about Boosters funding, said memberships are due and are coming in at a good rate.
It was noted that “Trick or Treat Around the Square” was a success, with more than 300 treats handed out.
