CENTERVILLE – Powered by Brady Boulton’s school-record 54-points, the Montezuma Braves took down Class 3A Centerville 78-67 on Tuesday night, Jan. 7.
To say that this was one of those non-conference shootouts would be an understatement. Until the fourth quarter, that is. The Braves clamped down on defnense and outscored the Big Reds 20-12, to open a lead to double digits.
Centerville led 18-17 after one quarter; Montezuma led 38-33 at halftime and 58-55 through three quarters.
Boulton shot 18-for-28 from the field, including 6-for-10 from behind the arc. His quickness proved tough for Centerville to handle as he put himself on the line for 16 free throws, 12 of which he made.
Brady added 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and five deflections. He also blocked two shots.
Boulton was the only Brave to reach double figures, but he had just the right amount of help in various categories.
Kohen Holland scored 9 points and grabbe 8 rebounds.
Max Anderson, who came in off two tough shooting game, was 2-for-6, including 2-for-4 from three and scored 7 points.
Dane Strong scored 6 points, and also was 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
The Braves shot .509 from the field, which they’ll take any night. That included 10-for-18 from behind the three-point arc.
The win lifted the Braves to 8-1 on the season.
Centerville fell to 3-5.
UP NEXT – Montezuma’s girls and boys host PCM on Thursday, Jan. 9, and travel to Belle Plaine on Friday, Jan. 10.
