Damp and windy conditions didn’t stop the Montezuma boys track team from getting out and working hard at the Lew Lundy Relays on Tuesday, April 19.
The Braves scored 93.5 points in placing third in a six-team field.
“The boys ran and competed very well,” Coach John Beck said. “We had some nice runs out of a lot of individuals.”
“The group of Carter Michalek, David Rose, Jack Erselius and Bryson Stockman competed really well in the 4×200 and 4×100,” Beck said. They won the 4×200 in 1:42.68, and placed third in the 4×100 in 49.86.
“Eli Bustamante and Garrett Watts both continue to jump well for us,” Beck said. “They are very committed to the high jump and I look for their heights to improve in the next couple of weeks.”
Bustamante tied for second in this event at 5-6, and Watts tied for fifth at 5-4. Both have been consistent at those heights.
“Our hurdles crew is doing some really nice things,” said the coach. “We are focusing on getting out and attacking the hurdles and feel as if they are one clean run away from putting up a season’s best.”
As it was, the shuttle team of Bryson Stockman, Garrett Watts, Zach Bennett and Brett Plants clocked 1:18.37 and placed third.
“Our throwers continue to improve,” the coach said. “Kennen Roadcap, Nik Kotar and company all keep improving and setting personal records,” said Beck.
Kotar missed his first 40-foot throw of the season in the shot by two inches, but that was good enough for second place. Roadcap sailed the dish 101 feet, 6 inches, to place fourth.
“They have really focused in on the details and it is paying off,” Beck said.
“The distance crew continues to improve as well,” Beck said. “Jayden Ross and Colton Benson continue to be great leaders for this group, which continues to shave seconds off their times.”
Carter Michalek led the Braves in team points in this meet with 10, while Ross scored 9.
“The guys cannot wait to get out next week and compete again,” Beck said.
UP NEXT – The Braves were scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 26, at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
