PANORA – In golf, strong winds can be good – like when it’s at your back when playing off the tee on a long par 5.

They can be bad – like blowing you or you the ball off course on a delicate putt.

The wind is annoying, especially when its howling across the prairie at 30 to 50 miles an hour, like it was Saturday, April 23, at the Hal Rossow Invitational meet at Lake Panorama National Golf Club.

One thing for sure – Saturday’s winds impacted everybody.

That’s why the third place team finish by Montezuma’s boys is really impressive.

Our boys competed on a very difficult course in tough conditions,” said Montezuma co-head coach Liesl Roorda.

We are proud of our Braves for going toe-to-toe with larger Class 2A and Class 3A schools,” she said.

Webster City won the meet with a score of 346 in the 18-hole event. Kuemper Catholic was second at 366. The Braves’ third place score was 371. There were eight scoring teams in the field.

Montezuma’s Eddie Burgess shot an 86 to place third in the medalist race.

Cruz De Jong shot 87 to take fifth.
