OSKALOOSA – The Montezuma boys and girls golf teams traveled to the Oskaloosa Public Golf Course Monday afternoon, May 3, to take on Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The girls meet also included Colfax-Mingo. After a light afternoon rain, the teams made their way through some nice tree-lined fairways and large, gently-sloping greens.
Montezuma’s boys posted individual scores to lead to a team victory over EBF of 168 to 215.
Leading the way was Eddie Burgess scoring a 41, followed closely by Jacob Ross and Cruz DeJong, both with 42’s.
At 43 was Connor Van Zee and Maguire DeJong.
Along the way were a few struggles with trees and thick grass off the fairways, but the boys recovered better from these shots and are showing more consistency over the nine holes.
Four jv golfers were able to compete in a best shot format with EBF jv and continued to get more experience with the Oskaloosa course.
The girls enjoyed the layout and challenges of the course but had a number of struggles as the afternoon passed. They are working to become more consistent shot to shot and learned a lot from this meet.
Both boys and girls will be practicing hard this week in preparation for the upcoming SICL 18-hole golf meet for the conference title which will be played at Oakland Acres on Monday, May 11 (boys) and Tuesday, May 12 (girls).
