BELLE PLAINE – It was a cold and breezy afternoon and evening – good weather to stay active if you want to keep warm.
That’s what Montezuma’s nine-member boys track and field team did in their season-opening meet on Thursday, April 1.
The Braves entered 11 events in the nine-team Plainsmen Relays, and placed (first through sixth) in nine of them.
The Braves entered one relay, the 1,600 distance medley, and won it in 4:15.20. Runners were Eli Bustamante, Marty Knox, Garrett Watts and Brydon Henning.
Montezuma had two wins, the other coming from senior distance ace Henning in the 800, in a time of 2:19.81.
Henning scored 20.5 of Montezuma’s team points, while high jumper-sprinter Eli Bustamante had 12.5.
The Braves had two second-place finishes. One was by Henning in the 3,200, in 12:04.15, the other by Bustamante in the high jump. He cleared 5 feet, two inches.
