Boys tracksters are hungry to start

David Rose strides to the front.

Boys Track Head Coach

We have 21 boys out for track and a pretty good balance of athletes this year with pretty solid numbers in grade levels and within our different specialty groups.

We have about three weeks of practice under our belts and I am very pleased with the effort, competitiveness, and attitude of the team.

Our seniors have done a great job of being leaders and showing the young guys how to work and compete. We are looking to build off of the momentum we ended the season with.

Having Garrett Watts make it to the state meet in the 110 high hurdles last season was a great experience for him and we were very close to state in a couple of other events.

Garrett Watts took his hurdling form to the state meet last year.

Watts and the rest of the hurdle crew look to build off of a very good performance at districts where they were less than a half-second from making state in the shuttle race.

Damien Knox was also very close in the 110 Highs and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow in his sophomore season. Look for these two plus a combination of Broox Stockman, Bryson Stockman, and Luke Brennan to compete for the shuttle hurdle spots.

Bryson Stockman and Brennan will also compete in the 400 lows.

In the sprints we have a well-established group coming back with Kenny Criswell, David Rose, and Broox Stockman being on a team that was a couple of tenths out of a state berth in the 4×100.

Those young men along with leadership from Alex Black and Jack Erselius look to continue to push this group. Our young guys in this group have done a nice job of competing and growing.

Our mid-distance and distance groups have been working hard this season with Jayden Ross, Kohen Holland, and Luke Erselius pushing and encouraging the younger guys.

Ross is our veteran long-distance guy while Holland and Erselius have built off of their solid campaigns last season in the mid-distance events.

Our younger guys have accepted the challenge of being in this group. Every workout they are competing and working hard to push the older group. I am excited to see the growth as these guys continue to compete.

Jayden Ross will be a leader in the Braves distance races.

Our throwing crew includes returner Briar Simpson and Beau Young, a freshman. Both guys have been working really hard on their technique and are looking to improve as the season goes on.

Our jumping crew has some experience along with a couple of freshmen who look to improve throughout the year. Watts and Knox are capable of doing both jumps. Both guys made the finals in the long jump last year at districts.

Our two freshmen jumping at the moment are Evan Haughey (long jump) and Easton Hudnut (high jump).

As always guys will be moved around to best fit their skills as the season moves on and do what is best for the team as we approach the end of the season.

I am very excited to see how this group of young men develop during that time. There are some big goals set for these men and they are itching to start competing against other teams. We will need to stay healthy and remain hungry to accomplish those goals.
