GRUNDY CENTER – Will running against athletes from larger schools in recent meets pay off for Montezuma at the SICL meet on May 3?

The Braves were anxious to answer that question after competing in the Grundy Center Coed Invite on Friday, April 29.

Overall, we ran well and there were a lot of individual personal records,” said Montezuma Coach John Beck. “The conditions were not always great, but the guys persevered through it.”

The Braves placed sixth in a nine-team field with 37 points.

Handoffs, are something that we are always fine-tuning. Blocks are another thing that we will hit on before our next meet,” the coach said.

The shuttle hurdle crew continues to improve, setting a new season-best,” Beck said. Brett Plants, Garrett Watts, Bryson Stockman and Zach Bennett clocked 1:14.47 to place fourth.

Our sprinters did a real good job and all our 100-meters guys set a new season best in the open 100,” Beck noted.

The high jump crew (Eli Bustamante and Garrett Watts) placed well in very tough jumping conditons,” Beck said.

Watts placed second at 5 feet, 4 inches, and Bustamante was third at 5-2. The two were Montezuma’s leading scorers in this meet.

Jayden Ross continues to push himself and dropped his 1,600 meters time again,” Beck said.

Ross placed eighth in the 1,600 at 5:37.85. He was seventh over 3,200 meters, in 12:19.45.

The guys are excited to get out and compete in the conference meet,” Beck said.
